This is some phenomenon. It’s everywhere on our social media feeds. People we have never heard of with accounts set up solely for the purpose of yammering on about some product we’ve never heard of.

And apparently they’re being paid very good money by the companies who make these products, in spite of the fact that as far as we can tell they tend to have only 1,000 followers or so.


During Dan’s days as a syndicated columnist, he had a Facebook page that garnered more than 10,000 followers. The page still exists but he almost never posts on it, largely because Facebook changed its algorithms a few years ago to ensure that almost none of the 10,000 followers would see the posts.

But hey. Maybe it’s time to try something new. Maybe we could be influencers! The problem is that we don’t usually talk about things in the way that influencers do.
