The U.S.-Mexico border is one of the busiest in the world for freight shipping, with more than 35,000 trucks crossing the border most days – and more than $600 billion in annual trade.
Moving goods to and from Mexico presents its own unique challenges, and of course every shipper has its own unique needs.
That’s why the North American Services team at Bestway International understands the need to stay on top of developments in U.S.-Mexico shipping, while remaining committed to catered solutions for every single Bestway client.
“Each client has different needs,” says Ryan Shannon, head of North American Services. “We adjust our level of service accordingly, but we automatically assume the highest level of service at the onset, and then we work backwards from there.”
But make no mistake: Regardless of how much service any client might need, they will get the absolute best from the Bestway team.
And that’s critical because shipping to and from Mexico involves some unique nuances, such as the requirement that a Mexico-based customs broker, registered with the Mexican government, must be involved along with a U.S.-based broker. That requires close cooperation between the two brokers, and Bestway has mastered the art of those collaborations.
Knowledge of Mexican document requirements is also critical, with one of the most important being the DODA (Documento de Operación para Despacho Aduanero) being the final piece required for Mexican crossing documents.
One priority Bestway emphasizes whenever possible is to utilize a single carrier for all points in freight transport between the U.S. and Mexico.
“We do true door-to-door,” Shannon says. “All the carriers we utilize load onto one trailer, and it stays on that trailer until it’s delivered.”
Of course, Bestway is committed to catered service, so if a client’s particular need calls for use of the transloading facility at Laredo, Bestway will work with that.
“But it’s not something we utilize often because there is more damage risk and we don’t find it’s as efficient,” Shannon says.
Some of the other nuances of Mexico shipping require Bestway to offer creative solutions. For example, while U.S. shippers are typically required to carry $100,000 in insurance on their cargo, Mexican shippers are more often part of a global insurance package. But Bestway offers access to additional insurance, which Shannon describes as “something we can offer to cool nerves and give people peace of mind.”
Our Mexico shipping services cover four procedures:
- Load-tendered
- Carrier pickup
- Mexico transit
- S. transit
Both dry van and flatbed services are available.
Bestway offers seven team members who are fully trained and capable on all Mexico crossing issues, including Ryan Shannon, Cody Reynolds, Ian Kilburn, Tim Mulvaney, Robert Devers, Kevin Burger and Logan Murcek.
